# Notification settings

Choose which notifications you get, who can @mention you, and whether you receive promotional messages.

## Overview

In **Account** › **Notifications**, you can choose which notifications you get, who can @mention you, and whether you receive promotional messages.

## Where to find it

Click your profile photo in the top-right corner, choose **Account** in the menu that opens, then choose **Notifications** in the menu on the left (on a phone-sized screen, in the tabs at the top). In the GenToon app, go to the **Profile** tab › **Notifications** — there, changes save as soon as you tap them.

## Step by step

1. Under **Notification types**, turn off the notifications you don’t want. They’re all on at first, and include likes, comments, replies, mentions, follows, new posts, new episodes of series you’re reading, and character chat replies. If you turn off **New episodes of series you're reading** but follow the author, a new episode can still reach you as a **New posts** notification.

2. Under **Who can @mention you**, choose **Everyone**, **People you follow**, or **No one**. Mentions from people you don’t allow appear as plain text, without a notification.
3. Under **Advertising messages**, turn **By email** and **By app notification** on or off.
4. On the website, click **Save** to save your changes.

## Browser notifications

On the same screen, turn on **Get notifications in this browser** under **Browser notifications** to get alerts for finished comics, comments, replies, mentions, and messages (including character chat replies) even with the GenToon tab closed, as long as your browser is open. Other alerts, such as likes and follows, aren’t sent to the browser, and if you get notifications in the GenToon app, they go to the app only. The first time, your browser asks whether to allow notifications — click “Allow.” This setting saves as soon as you click it.

## Good to know

> **Note:** Turning off a notification type stops **only the alerts sent to your phone or browser**. They still collect in the notification inbox inside GenToon.

> **Note:** The website’s notification settings have no switch for “comic ready” or system notices, so you can’t turn those off here. In the GenToon app’s notification settings, you can also turn off **Generation complete** and **Announcements**. Turning off promotional messages doesn’t stop billing and security notices, or comment and “comic ready” notifications.

> **Tip:** To get push notifications from the GenToon app, notifications also need to be allowed in the app and in your phone’s settings.

## FAQ

**I turned notifications off, but they still show up in my inbox.**

It’s expected that your inbox keeps notifications after you turn them off. The settings only turn off alerts sent to your phone or browser.

**How do I stop promotional emails?**

Promotional emails stop when you turn off **By email**. Turn it off under **Advertising messages** and click **Save**. You can also use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any promotional email.

**My notifications arrive in a different language.**

Your notification language is set separately from the site language. To change it, see [Change your language](https://www.gentoon.ai/en/help/account/language).
