# Change your name and profile photo

How to change your display name, @handle, profile photo, and bio — and the rules for names and handles.

## Overview

The name and photo other people see are changed on your **community profile**. Changes show up everywhere — on your posts, your comments, and your profile. Your profile updates right away; feeds and comment lists can take a few minutes to catch up.

| --- | --- |
| **Display name** | The big name people see. It can be the same as someone else’s, and you can change it any time |
| **Handle (username)** | Your unique ID after the @. People use it to find you or call you with @. No one else can have the same one |
| **Bio** | A short introduction shown on your profile |
| Profile photo | Upload a photo, or pick an image of a character you made |

## Where to find it

- Click your profile photo in the top-right corner, then choose **Community Profile** in the menu that opens.
- You can also click **Edit in Community** in **Account** › **My Account** to get to the same place.

## Step by step

1. On your community profile, click the pencil icon (**Edit Profile**) at the bottom-right of your profile photo.

2. To change your photo, upload one with **Upload photo**, or click **Select from my characters** to pick a character image.

3. Edit your **Display name**, **Handle (username)**, and **Bio**.
4. Click **Save** to save. Your profile shows the changes right away.

## Rules for names and handles

- Handles can use only lowercase letters, numbers, underscores (\_), and periods (.). As you type, capital letters turn lowercase and characters that aren’t allowed are left out. A handle can’t start or end with \_ or ., can’t have two of them in a row, and has a length limit. If a handle breaks a rule, a red note under the field shows the rules.
- You can’t pick a handle someone else already uses, or a reserved word. While you type, it tells you right away whether the handle is available.
- After you change your handle, you can’t change it again for a while. Until then, the editor shows how many days are left. That note says “Nickname,” but it’s about your handle — display names have no such limit.
- Profile photos can be JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF images, and there’s a file size limit.

> **Tip:** Your profile address stays the same even if you change your name or handle, so links you shared before keep working.

## FAQ

**It says I can’t change my handle yet.**

After you change your handle, you have to wait a while before changing it again. Until then, the **Handle (username)** field in the editor is locked, and a yellow note just above it shows how many days are left. The note says “Nickname,” but only your handle is locked — you can change your display name any time.

**My profile photo won’t upload.**

Profile photos must be JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF files within the size limit. Try resizing a large photo and uploading it again.
