# Choose an art style

Set your comic’s mood by picking an art style, from Insta comics, romance, and fantasy to picture-book and pixel art, or by uploading your own.

## Overview

An art style decides **how** your comic is drawn: line weight, coloring, the shape of the eyes, and so on. Your characters stay the same people. GenToon has a large collection of styles organized by category, and you can also upload a picture to use its style. Choosing a style is free.

## Where you choose

| Where | What the style is used for |
| --- | --- |
| The **Which art style would you like?** card in the agent chat | The comic you draw in that conversation |
| The art style list in the **Single Panel** tab | Panels you draw in that tab |
| When creating a character (**Photo → Character**, **Generate with AI**, or the new character card in the chat) | That character’s reference art (here, clicking a card selects it right away with no confirmation window, and you can’t use **My style**) |

## How to pick a style

1. Choose a category from the tabs at the top of the list. Clicking a tab opens a larger window with that category’s styles. There’s an **All** tab plus genre tabs like **Insta Comics**, **Romance**, and **Fantasy**. Once you’ve picked a style, a **Recent** tab appears, and once you’ve starred one, a **⭐ Favorites** tab appears too.

2. Look over the sample art on each card and click the style you like. A **Popular** tag marks styles GenToon recommends. Click the star on a card to add it to your favorites. Favorites and recently picked styles are saved only in the browser you’re using.

3. In the **Draw your webtoon in this style?** window, click **Draw in this style** to lock it in, or **See other styles** to keep looking.

> **Tip:** Once you pick a style in the agent chat, a **Current art style** bar appears at the top of the chat. Click **Change**, or say something like “Make it look like watercolor” in the chat, and the art style card opens again so you can switch any time. The new style applies to panels drawn from then on, and panels you’ve already drawn stay as they are. Zennyang may offer to redraw those panels in the new style too; redrawing costs credits for each panel.

## Draw in your characters' default style

To keep the style your characters were created in, choose the first card in the style list, **Your character's default style**. It’s the same card in the agent chat and in the **Single Panel** tab. Each character is then drawn in the style they were made in, and no new style versions of your characters are made, so there’s no extra cost.

## Upload your own style

1. In the tabs at the top of the style list, click the **My style** tab. When the larger style window opens, click **Upload**. If you’ve already uploaded a style, click the **Add New Style** tile instead.
2. Choose a picture drawn in the style you want. Only the way it’s drawn is used, not the people in it.
3. Your uploaded style is saved in the **My style** tab. To use it now, click it and then click **Draw in this style**. You can pick it again from this tab next time.

## Drawing a character in a new style for the first time

Each character’s reference art is drawn in the style they were created in. So when a character appears in a comic with a chosen style and there’s no version of that character for the style yet, a new version is made for that style. This costs 13 credits per character. Once made, a version is reused at no extra cost unless you delete it. But a different look (outfit, hair, or age) gets its own version, even in the same style. And depending on how a character was made, for example in the **Create** tab on the left or on the app’s character creation screen, a version is made the first time even when you draw them in the style you picked when creating them.

> **Note:** In the web Studio’s Agent Mode, Zennyang asks before making these versions and shows the characters’ names and the total credits. If you decline, you aren’t charged, but the comic is drawn in your characters’ default style instead of the style you picked. Versions for a different look, and versions needed when you draw in the **Single Panel** tab or in the app, are made without asking (the app shows the cost on its art style card). To avoid the extra cost, choose the first card in the style list, **Your character's default style**.

To see the versions of a character drawn in different styles, find the character in the **Create** tab on the left of the Studio, click **Details**, then open **Art style**. If you delete a version there, it’s made again, and charged again, the next time you draw in that style. Each character can hold only a limited number of style versions. Once that limit is reached, no new versions are made: you aren’t charged, but a newly chosen style may show less on that character.

## FAQ

**Does choosing an art style cost credits?**

Choosing an art style is free. But when you draw a character who doesn’t have a version in that style yet, making it costs 13 credits per character. Choosing the **Your character's default style** card avoids this cost.

**Can you draw it in a famous artist’s style?**

Instead of naming a specific artist, pick a style with a similar feel from the categories, or upload your own picture in the **My style** tab. If you upload someone else’s art, make sure you have the rights to it.

**Can each panel use a different style?**

Each panel can have its own style when you draw it in the **Single Panel** tab. Within one comic, though, sticking to one style usually reads more naturally.
