# Working with panels

Add, select, reorder, duplicate, and delete panels, and fine-tune each one with the panel tools.

## Overview

Each box stacked on the canvas is one image. An image can hold a single panel, or you can split it into several panels. An image with several panels in it is called a **page**. Credits are charged per image, not per panel.

Every box on the canvas has a vertical strip of tool buttons on its right. Hover over a button to see its name. A page with several panels still has just one strip, so deleting, duplicating, moving, editing, and redrawing apply to the whole page at once.

## Add panels

1. To add one at the end, click **Add Page** below the last panel.

2. To insert one between two panels, hover over the gap between them. When a round + button appears, click it.
3. To add one right below a specific panel, click **Add Panel** in that panel’s tools.

> **Tip:** You don’t need to set up empty panels ahead of time. When Zennyang draws your scenario, it fills in as many as it needs.

## Select a panel

- Click a drawn panel to select it. It gets a purple outline and a **Selected** tag, and the chat box switches to asking how you’d like to change that panel.
- To deselect, click the ✕ next to the tag, or click an empty spot on the canvas.
- Empty panels that haven’t been drawn yet can be selected in the **Single Panel** tab.

## The panel tools

| Button | When you see it | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Edit** | Drawn panels | Describe what to change and redraw just this panel. Costs the price of the model you choose. |
| **Fix text** | Drawn panels | Change the text inside a speech bubble right where it is. Free. |
| Redraw (hover text: **Character looks off?**) | Drawn panels | Redraw with the same settings. Costs the price of the model you choose. |
| **Panel layout** | Empty pages that haven’t been drawn yet (in the **Agent Mode** tab) | Draw lines to split the page into the panels you want. |
| **Upload** | Always | Opens the upload area on the left. Upload your own drawings or photos and drag them onto the canvas. |
| **Download this panel** | Always | Downloads just this panel as an image. |
| **Import panel** | Always | Pick a panel you drew with AI, in this project or another, and put it into this panel. If this panel already has art, it’s replaced. Only panels with the same aspect ratio are shown, and it’s free. |
| **Save as a place** | Drawn panels in a project linked to a world | Saves this panel’s art as a setting (a place) in your world. |
| **Move up** · **Move down** | Always | Moves the panel up or down one spot. |
| **Duplicate panel** | Always | Makes an exact copy, art and bubbles included, right below. |
| **Add Panel** | Always | Adds an empty panel right below. |
| **Delete panel** | When the canvas has 2 or more boxes | Deletes this panel. |

> **Note:** Most of the tool buttons are paused while drawing is in progress. They come back as soon as it’s done.

## Fix one panel with the edit window

1. Click **Edit** in the tools of the panel you want to change. The **Edit Image** window opens.

![Click Edit in the tools of the panel you want to change. The Edit Image window opens.](https://pub-6e5feb091fa740fa80f3a5a12a895d23.r2.dev/help-center/shots/en/studio-edit-dialog.8582c9b4.1x.webp)
2. In **Edit Instructions**, describe what you want to change. For example: “Make the background a rainy night.”
3. If it helps, attach reference images, or, if this project has other drawn panels, use **Reference another panel** to point it at one of them. To get rid of the speech bubbles, check **Remove all speech bubbles**. This option only appears for panels drawn with dialogue.
4. Under **Generation Model**, choose Standard or Pro. Each option shows how many credits it uses. The model selected at first may not be the one this panel was drawn with, so check which one is selected before you continue.

5. Click **Apply Edit** to redraw just that panel.

You can also ask Zennyang to do this in the chat. See [Edit panels by chatting](https://www.gentoon.ai/en/help/agent/edit-cuts-with-agent).

## Redraw with the same settings

1. Click the redraw button in the panel tools. When you hover over it, it says **Character looks off?**
2. Choose Pro or Standard. Each shows how many credits it uses.
3. Click **Regenerate** to redraw it with the same settings.

## Go back to an earlier version

When you redraw or edit a panel, the earlier versions are kept. Select a drawn panel and a small strip of thumbnails, with a clock icon and a count at the top, appears to its left. The version in use has a purple border and a ✓. Hover over a thumbnail to see it larger; if it’s the version in use, it’s also marked **Current**. Click any other version to switch to it. Going back doesn’t cost any credits.

> **Note:** The strip only appears for panels with at least two versions, and only when your window is wide enough. On narrow screens like phones, select the panel in the **Single Panel** tab and use the **Generation History** list near the bottom. Art changed with **Fix text** isn’t added to the strip or the list, so once you switch to another version, you can’t pick it again.

## Delete a panel

1. Click **Delete panel** in the tools of the panel you want to delete.
2. In the **Delete this panel?** window, click **Delete**.

> **Important:** Deleted panels can’t be brought back. If you might want the art later, download it first with **Download this panel**. If you’ve already deleted one, you can still bring back its AI-drawn art for free: add an empty panel and use **Import panel** in its tools.

## FAQ

**Can I drag panels to reorder them?**

Panels can’t be dragged, but you can move one a spot at a time with the **Move up** and **Move down** buttons in the panel tools.

**Does putting several panels on one image cost more?**

Credits are charged per image, so splitting one image into several panels still costs the price of one image. Zennyang may ask how many panels to put on each page, or you can decide yourself with [Split a page into panels](https://www.gentoon.ai/en/help/studio/frame-layout).

**Why can’t I delete my last panel?**

The canvas always needs at least one box, so the delete button disappears when only one box is left, even if it holds several panels.
