# Add and fix speech bubbles and text

Put dialogue into your art, then change just the bubble text after drawing, or place and remove bubbles yourself.

## Overview

There are three ways to handle dialogue on GenToon.

1. **Before drawing**, set the dialogue on the scenario card and the AI draws the speech bubbles and text right into the art.
2. **After drawing**, if only the words are wrong, use **Fix text** to replace the text where it sits. It’s free (for now, Korean and Latin letters only).
3. **Yourself**, type text in the **Single Panel** tab and place it on top of the art. That’s free too.

## Before drawing: set the dialogue on the scenario card

Each panel on the scenario card has a **💬 Dialogue & narration (shown as text on the image)** section, and the lines there are drawn into the art as text. If a panel is folded into a short summary, click its **Edit** button to open it. You can edit or delete lines right there, or add a new one and choose who says it. For each line you can pick a bubble style (**Normal**, **Shout**, **Whisper**, **Thought**, and more), and for spoken lines an expression too.

For details, see [Read and edit the scenario card](https://www.gentoon.ai/en/help/agent/scenario-card).

> **Tip:** For panels with lots of dialogue or where the text really matters, Pro mode tends to draw lettering more accurately, but it costs more credits.

## After drawing: fix just the text

1. In the panel tools (the vertical button strip next to the panel you want to fix), click the “T”-shaped **Fix text** button.

2. GenToon finds the speech bubbles in that panel and outlines them. Click the bubble you want to change.

3. Under **Which line is this?**, choose the line that was in that bubble. If it isn’t listed, click **Not in the list**. If the panel has no saved dialogue, there’s no list, so just type the new text.
4. Type the new line and click **Replace**. You can also press Ctrl + Enter (Mac: ⌘ + Enter).
5. When you’re finished, click **Done** or press Esc.

> **Note:** Fixing text is free. If a line was selected in the list when you fixed it, the panel’s saved dialogue changes too, so a later AI edit of that panel works from your new line. If you used **Not in the list**, or the panel had no list, only the picture changes, so an AI edit may change or drop that text.

### When fixing text doesn’t work

- It only finds text inside bright speech bubbles with a closed outline. It can’t find colored boxes, signs, or sound effects.
- On pages with several panels, it doesn’t guess which line a bubble holds. Pick it from the list yourself.
- New text is written in the GenToon font, so it looks different from the AI’s hand lettering.
- For now, only Korean and Latin letters work (including accented letters used in Western European languages, such as é, ñ and ü). Japanese kana, Chinese characters, Cyrillic (such as Russian), Arabic script (Arabic, Urdu), Thai, Hindi and Bengali script, Vietnamese and Turkish letters such as ơ, ư, ğ and ş, symbols like ♥ and ★, and emoji can’t be used yet. If you type one, GenToon tells you which characters aren’t supported.
- Long lines won’t fit in small bubbles. Try a shorter line.
- This works in the web Studio. It isn’t available in the app.
- A text fix isn’t saved as a new version in **Generation History**; it only shows there as the current image. If you pick another image in the history, the fix is gone and can’t be picked again from the history.

If fixing the text isn’t enough, use the pencil-shaped **Edit** button in the panel tools, or tell Zennyang the new line in the chat and have the panel redrawn. That costs the price of one image. See [Edit panels by chatting](https://www.gentoon.ai/en/help/agent/edit-cuts-with-agent).

## Yourself: place speech bubbles on the art

1. On the canvas, select a panel that’s already drawn, then open the **Single Panel** tab on the right.
2. In the **Balloons & narration** section, switch from **AI lettering** to **Type directly**.

3. Pick a bubble shape, or choose **Text without a shape** for plain text.
4. Type your text in **Dialogue or narration**, then set the text size. If you picked a shape, set the bubble size too.
5. Click **Place on the image** to place it on the panel. Drag it to move it, and double-click it to edit the text.

> **Note:** Typing and editing your own text is free. If you redraw a panel after switching it to typed text, the next drawing comes out without bubbles or lettering. Click any text you’ve placed to change its font in **Properties** on the left.

## Remove speech bubbles

- Before drawing, delete that panel’s dialogue lines on the scenario card.
- For a panel that’s already drawn, click the pencil-shaped **Edit** button in the panel tools, check **Remove all speech bubbles**, type a short note such as “Remove the speech bubbles” in **Edit Instructions**, and click **Apply Edit**. The button stays off while **Edit Instructions** is empty. This costs the price of one image. The checkbox only appears when the panel has saved dialogue; if you don’t see it, edit the panel through the chat as described below.
- When editing through the chat, turn on **No speech bubbles** on the edit confirmation card. This also costs the price of one image per panel.

## FAQ

**There’s a typo in the text the AI drew.**

You can fix a typo for free by replacing just the words with **Fix text** (for now, Korean and Latin letters only). If you need other characters, or want the lettering to match the original art, tell Zennyang the correct line and have the panel redrawn. That costs the price of one image.

**I don’t see the **Fix text** button.**

**Fix text** is the “T” icon in the panel tools (the vertical button strip next to a panel); hover over it to see its name. It only appears in the web Studio, on panels that are drawn and saved. It isn’t available in the app.
