# Trash and restoring

Restore deleted projects, characters, and worlds from the Trash, or delete them for good.

## Overview

When you delete a project, a character, or a world, it moves to the Trash instead of disappearing. You can restore it any time during the holding period, and after that it’s deleted for good automatically. Characters and worlds are kept for 30 days. If you published a project to the Community, its post is hidden while the project is in the Trash and shows up again when you restore it. Check the notice at the top of the Trash and the days left shown on each item.

## Where to find it

1. Click **Projects** in your profile menu. In the app, tap **Trash** on the **Profile** tab to open the Trash directly.
2. Click the **Trash** button at the top of the page.

3. Choose the **Projects**, **Characters**, or **Worlds** tab.

## Restore something

1. Find what you want back. You can search on every tab, and filter and sort on the projects tab.
2. Click **Restore** on the item. On project cards, the button appears only when you hover over the card.

3. Restored projects go back to your **Projects** list. Characters and worlds go back to the **Create** tab in the Studio.

To restore several projects at once, select them with **Select All** or each card’s checkbox, then click **Restore** at the top.

> **Important:** A character can’t be restored if you’ve reached your character limit or if you already have a character with the same name. Free up a slot or rename the existing character, then try again. Worlds can’t be restored if your world limit is full either.

## Delete for good

1. In the Trash, click **Delete Forever** on the item. On project cards, the button appears only when you hover over the card.
2. Confirm in the window that appears.

> **Important:** Permanent deletion can’t be undone. A project loses all its panels, and if it was published to the Community, its post goes too, along with its comments and likes. A character loses its images, voice, and 1:1 chat history, and a world loses its relationship map, memories, and setting files. Deleting a world doesn’t delete the characters, series, or episodes in it.

## See how many days are left

Each item in the Trash shows how many days are left before it’s deleted for good. When time is almost up, it turns red. On the projects tab, choose **Expiring Soon (7 days)** in the filter to see only what’s about to be deleted. But if you’ve deleted a lot of projects, the web Trash shows only some of them, starting with the most recently deleted, and search and the filter look only among those. To find projects you deleted long ago, scroll to the end of the Trash in the app.

## What goes to the Trash

| What you delete | Where you delete it | Goes to the Trash? |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Projects | The ⋮ button on a card in **Projects** → **Move to Trash** | Yes |
| Characters | In the Studio’s **Create** tab, choose **All**, then use the trash icon on the character’s row; the row’s **Details** → **Profile & personality** → **Delete character** at the bottom (click it twice); or the **My Characters** tab in **Projects** | Yes |
| Worlds | The world view in the Studio’s **Create** tab | Yes (right after deleting, you can also bring it back instantly with **Undo**) |
| Panels | The panel tools on the canvas | No. They’re deleted right away |
| Character looks, props, and setting images | Character Studio, or the Studio’s **Create** tab | No. They’re deleted right away |

> **Note:** Moving a character to the Trash, or even deleting it for good, doesn’t remove it from posts it already appears in. To remove it from posts too, check **Also remove my character's info from other people's posts** when you delete it with the trash icon in the Studio’s character list (in the app, tap the button with the same name). The character’s name, description, and images are then removed right away from every post it appears in, yours and other people’s. Panels already drawn stay as they are, and the removed info doesn’t come back even if you restore the character. This option isn’t there when you delete from the **Profile & personality** screen or from **Projects**. To remove a character deleted that way from posts, restore it from the Trash and delete it again from the list.

## FAQ

**Can I empty the Trash all at once?**

The web Trash has no button to empty everything, but in the app’s Trash you can clear out projects and characters at once with **Empty trash** in the top right. On the web, you can select several projects and delete them for good together, and anything left is deleted automatically once its holding period ends.

**Do characters in the Trash count toward my character limit?**

Characters in the Trash don’t count toward your limit, so you can make a new character in their place. But if there’s no room when you try to restore one later, it can’t be restored.

**Can I get back a panel I deleted?**

Panels don’t go to the Trash, so they can’t be restored. To keep the art, download it with **Download this panel** before deleting the panel.
