Embed a webtoon

Put a GenToon webtoon on your blog or website, and readers can swipe through every cut right there, without leaving your page.

What it looks like

This is the real embed player. Try swiping through it.

How to embed

  1. Tap «Embed» on the post

    You will find it under the webtoon post, right next to the share button.

  2. Pick a size

    Choose Small, Default or Large. If the page column is narrow, turn on «Responsive code». The preview shows your choice right away.

    Under «Reading style», choose «Swipe through» (the default) or «Scroll down». Scroll down always starts at the first cut.

  3. Tap «Copy code» and paste it

    Paste it into the HTML editor of your blog or website, and you are done.

In the app, tap the post's share button and choose «Embed» to copy the code.

Where to paste it

Self-hosted WordPress
Just paste the post link and the player appears on its own. Use «Copy link» in the embed window.
Blogs and websites that accept HTML
Paste the code from «Copy code» into the HTML editor.
Places with a field for an address only
If a field takes only an address, use the player address. It looks like the line below, and the ID at the end is the last part of the post address.

Tap «Copy embed link» in the embed window to copy this address.

Anywhere else, it depends on whether the site allows outside HTML or an iframe. If it does not, share the link with «Copy link».

Good to know

  • The player uses no cookies and never asks anyone to sign in.
  • If the creator deletes the post or makes it private, it stops showing wherever it was embedded.
  • The player's button labels follow each reader's language.
  • Creators can see how often their webtoon was read on other sites under «Embed results» in the embed window.

For developers

If your service supports oEmbed, a post link is all it takes to show the player.

oEmbed endpoint

Pass the post address as url. Formats are json and xml, and maxwidth and maxheight shrink the player while keeping its shape. Post pages carry oEmbed discovery link tags.

Response codes: 200 OK · 404 the post doesn't exist or the URL isn't a GenToon post · 401 the post exists but can't be embedded (private or app-only posts, for example) · 501 a format other than json or xml.

Player address and parameters

hl
Fixes the language (for example en or ja). Without it, the player follows the reader's browser language.
theme
Use dark for a dark player.
start
Starts at cut N (counting from 1).
layout
Set it to scroll to read the cuts one after another vertically. Without it, readers flip one cut at a time. oEmbed embed codes always use one cut at a time.

The fullscreen button appears only when the iframe has allowfullscreen (our embed code includes it). WordPress removes that attribute and Safari on iPhone does not support fullscreen, so there is no button there. The captions (CC) button appears only when the reader's language differs from the dialogue language, and loads a translation once when tapped.

Height messages (postMessage)

The player tells the parent window when its height changes. Listen for the messages below and resize the iframe.

Player responses set no cookies and are marked noindex, so search engines do not index them.
