Overview

The Reel tab above the canvas strings your finished panels together, in order, into a vertical video (mp4). It’s made in the 9:16 shape that fits Instagram Reels and TikTok, and making the video doesn’t cost any credits.

Before you start

  • You need at least 3 panels with artwork. Panels that haven’t been drawn yet can’t go in the video.
  • Panels drawn in a vertical 9:16 ratio fill the whole screen. Panels in other ratios get black bars above and below.
  • The video is made right in your browser. We recommend the latest Chrome or Edge. If your browser can’t make videos, you’ll see a notice.

Step by step

  1. In the Studio, click the Reel tab above the canvas. It has a Beta label on it.

  2. A preview of your panels, joined in order, appears. The order is the same as the panels on your webtoon canvas. Speech bubbles and text you placed on the art yourself don’t show in this preview, but they do appear in the finished video.

  3. If it looks good, click Make the video as is below the preview. Under the button you’ll see the video’s length and a note that it has no sound.

  4. A progress bar shows while it renders. Stay on this browser tab until it finishes, since switching to another browser tab may pause it. To stop, click Cancel.

  5. When it’s done, click Save to download the mp4 file. On phones and tablets, Share comes first so you can send it straight to apps like Instagram or TikTok.

Post straight to your social accounts

If you’ve connected a social account, the finished screen shows a Post to social button. Click it to upload the video and jump to the composer in the SNS Auto tab, where you write your caption, watch the video once, and post. A video sent this way posts without sound, and you can’t add a song to it in the composer. If you want music, click Remove video in the composer to take the video out, then pick panels and a song under Reel video to make the video again. This makes a new video from the panels you pick in the composer, so the lengths, text, and stickers you set in the Reel tab aren’t included. See Post, schedule, and use the calendar for details.

Polish your video

When you open the Reel tab, the right side switches to Reel editing tools. If your screen is narrow and the right side is hidden, tap the panel button at the right end of the bar above the canvas to open it. Pick one of the Panel, Text, or Sticker tabs at the top to start.

  • Length of every panel — Set it all at once under Cut length at the bottom of the Panel tab. With Auto (fits the dialogue), each panel’s length follows how much dialogue it has. If you make it too short, panels with long lines may move on before they can be read.
  • One panel at a time — Pick a panel in the timeline below to change its length, Motion, Look, and Transition. Remove from video leaves that panel out of the video only, and Reset this cut puts the length, motion, look, and transition you changed on that panel back to the defaults. Text and stickers on that panel stay.
  • Text and stickers — Use the Text tab to add bubbles, captions, and shouts, and the Sticker tab to add emoji stickers on top of a panel. Drag them around in the preview, and change their text and size. Each panel can hold only a limited number.
  • Timeline — The length of a panel’s bar is how long it stays on screen. You can also drag the end of a bar to change it.
  • Undo — Use Undo or Ctrl+Z (⌘Z on Mac) to step back.

Sound and watermark

Videos made in the Reel tab have no sound. Add music on the editing screen in the Instagram or TikTok app before you post. If you post straight to a connected Instagram or Threads account, you can also make a new reel with a song in the composer in the SNS Auto tab, but it won’t include the lengths, text, and stickers you set in the Reel tab.

On plans that add a watermark, a small “gentoon.ai” mark appears in the lower-right area of the video. The plans are the same as for image downloads. See Watermarks for details. If you’ve changed your plan, make the video again to save it without the mark.

Make one in the app

In the app, tap the ⋯ button at the top right of the Studio and choose Make a Reel. You can polish and make it the same way as on the web, then save the finished video to your photos or share it to another app. This menu doesn’t open while art is being drawn.

FAQ

Does making a Reel cost credits?
Making a Reel video doesn’t cost any credits. The video is made on your own device (in your browser on the web), and that stays true no matter how many times you remake it.
The make button only shows a panel count and won’t click.
The make button won’t work until at least 3 panels can go in the video. Panels without artwork, panels that weren’t drawn because of our safety policy, and panels you took out with Remove from video don’t count. To bring a panel back, pick it in the timeline and click Add to video. If you still need more, go back to the Webtoon tab and draw more panels.
Making the video stopped or failed.
Switching to another browser tab can pause it partway, so stay on this browser tab and make it again. If it still doesn’t work, try the latest Chrome or Edge.
Can I add music?
You can’t add sound in the Studio’s Reel tab. When you post the saved video in the Instagram or TikTok app, add music on that app’s editing screen. If you post straight to a connected Instagram or Threads account, you can also choose a song under Reel video in the composer in the SNS Auto tab. That video is made fresh from the panels you pick in the composer, though, so the lengths, text, and stickers you set in the Reel tab aren’t included.
