Getting started
Can I use GenToon if I can’t draw?
The AI does the drawing, so you can make comics without drawing skills. Your job is to decide the story and scenes and pick the results you like. There are hands-on tools too, like fixing bubble text yourself, but you never have to use them.

A line or two of story is plenty. If you already know what your characters look like, that helps when you create them. To try it right away, follow the Quickstart.

Under our Terms of Service, you own the rights to what you create and can use it for personal and commercial purposes within the scope of your plan. Whether AI-generated art is protected by copyright depends on the applicable law. For details, see the Terms of Service, and for what you can’t make, see Usage policy and safety.
Read the full article · What is GenToon? What happens if I don’t have enough credits?
Your scenario and any panels already drawn are kept, so you can top up and keep going. If you don’t have enough for even one image, the draw button is replaced by a Not enough credits to draw this notice with a top-up button; top up on the Pricing page and draw from the same card. If you run out partway through drawing, it stops there, and you can draw the remaining panels after topping up.
Read the full article · Quickstart: your first comic in 3 stepsWhat happens to my credits if drawing fails?
Credits for panels that couldn’t be drawn are returned to you. If a panel can’t be drawn because of the content policy, you’re not charged for it either.
Read the full article · Quickstart: your first comic in 3 stepsCan I change the number of panels?
You can change it for free by asking in the chat. While the scenario card is showing, say something like “Make it 6 panels” and Zennyang will rework the scenario.
Read the full article · Quickstart: your first comic in 3 stepsIs there a button in the Studio that takes me to Projects?
There’s no direct button in the Studio, so you’ll go through the home page. If the Save Project button at the top has a purple outline, you have unsaved changes — click it first, because leaving through the logo may not save your latest edits. Then click the GenToon logo in the top-left corner to go home, and open Projects from your profile menu.

You may be signed in to a different account, or the project may be in a team workspace or the Trash. Check that you signed in the same way, with the same account, as when you signed up. Projects made in a team workspace show up only after you click that workspace’s name near the top of the Projects page. If you have many projects, click “Load More” at the bottom of the Comic Space tab to see older ones — search only looks through the projects already loaded. If you deleted the project, look in the Trash. A brand-new project only appears after something is drawn or you save it.
Read the full article · Find your way aroundCan I edit a comic on the web that I made in the app?
With the same account, comics made in the app open on the web too. On the web, open Projects from the profile menu in the top-right corner, then click the project’s card to open it in the Studio.

Memberships can’t be bought in the app; there you can only buy credits. Memberships are only available on the Pricing page of the GenToon website, and once you sign up, your benefits apply in the app too.
Read the full article · Using GenToon on the web and in the appAre credits bought in the app kept separate from credits bought on the web?
Credits bought on the web and in the app go into one balance you can use anywhere. Whether you buy them on the Pricing page on the web or in the app, they’re added to the same account as purchased credits.

How do I change the canvas aspect ratio?
You can only change the ratio while no panel has an image yet. To start over with a different ratio, open a new project with the New Project button (+) in the top bar and choose the ratio before you draw anything.
Read the full article · Studio layoutDo I have to click save?
You don’t have to. A new project is saved and shows up in Projects when you send Zennyang your first message or draw something for the first time. After that, changes save automatically shortly after you stop editing. To save before then, click Save Project. If you try to close the page with unsaved changes, your browser will ask you to confirm. Leaving through the GenToon logo doesn’t ask, so if the save button has a purple outline, click it first.
Read the full article · Studio layoutCan I duplicate a whole project?
There’s no way to duplicate a whole project right now. You can duplicate individual panels with the Duplicate panel button in the panel tools. To reuse art you drew in another project, use the Import panel button in the panel tools to bring it in one panel at a time, at no credit cost. Only art with the same ratio as the current project is listed, so in a new project, set the ratio in the top bar before you draw.

A new project only shows up in the list after you send Zennyang a message, something is drawn, or you save it. Click Save Project in the Studio once. A new project made in a team workspace goes into that workspace, not your personal list, so switch to that workspace on the Projects page to find it.

Projects in a team workspace show up when you switch to that workspace. See Team workspaces.
Read the full article · Create, open, and manage projectsCan I drag panels to reorder them?
Panels can’t be dragged, but you can move one a spot at a time with the Move up and Move down buttons in the panel tools.
Read the full article · Working with panelsDoes putting several panels on one image cost more?
Credits are charged per image, so splitting one image into several panels still costs the price of one image. Zennyang may ask how many panels to put on each page, or you can decide yourself with Split a page into panels.
Read the full article · Working with panelsWhy can’t I delete my last panel?
The canvas always needs at least one box, so the delete button disappears when only one box is left, even if it holds several panels.
Read the full article · Working with panelsHow is this different from Agent Mode?
In Agent Mode, Zennyang plans and draws several panels at once from your story; in Single Panel, you set up one panel yourself and draw it on its own. You can mix both in the same project.
Read the full article · Make one panel at a timeThe Generate Image button won’t click.
The Generate Image button works once you’ve selected a panel on the canvas and written a scene in Description. It’s also paused until drawing finishes whenever any panel is being drawn, including while the agent is drawing or getting ready to draw.
Read the full article · Make one panel at a timeI don’t see the Panel layout button.
The Panel layout button is a scissors icon with no text, and it only appears in the panel tools of an empty, not-yet-drawn page while the Agent Mode tab is open on the right. It won’t show on a page that’s already drawn or while the Single Panel tab is open. If you have no empty page, click Add Page at the bottom of the canvas to add one.
Read the full article · Split a page into panelsWill the art follow my panel shapes exactly?
Not always exactly: Zennyang asks for the art to follow your lines, but each drawing can place or size the panels a little differently. Very small or thin slanted panels hold less of the scene and are occasionally left out.
Read the full article · Split a page into panelsCan I split pages in the app?
You can split pages in the app too: use the scissors button in the message box to set the panels for the next page you draw.
Read the full article · Split a page into panelsThere’s a typo in the text the AI drew.
You can fix a typo for free by replacing just the words with Fix text (for now, Korean and Latin letters only). If you need other characters, or want the lettering to match the original art, tell Zennyang the correct line and have the panel redrawn. That costs the price of one image.
Read the full article · Add and fix speech bubbles and textI don’t see the Fix text button.
Fix text is the “T” icon in the panel tools (the vertical button strip next to a panel); hover over it to see its name. It only appears in the web Studio, on panels that are drawn and saved. It isn’t available in the app.
Read the full article · Add and fix speech bubbles and textCan I empty the Trash all at once?
The web Trash has no button to empty everything, but in the app’s Trash you can clear out projects and characters at once with Empty trash in the top right. On the web, you can select several projects and delete them for good together, and anything left is deleted automatically once its holding period ends.
Read the full article · Trash and restoringDo characters in the Trash count toward my character limit?
Characters in the Trash don’t count toward your limit, so you can make a new character in their place. But if there’s no room when you try to restore one later, it can’t be restored.

AI agent
I only chatted, but my credits went down.
Chatting with Zennyang and planning scenarios are free; credits are only used when something is drawn: drawing or editing panels, drawing a new character or a new look, or redrawing your characters in a newly chosen art style. In the GenToon app, new characters from your story are sometimes drawn right away without asking. You can see exactly where they went in View your credit history.
Read the full article · Agent chat basicsZennyang keeps chatting but won’t draw.
Zennyang only starts drawing after you click Draw as-is on the scenario card and pick Standard or Pro mode. If a card in the chat (world, cast, panels per image, art style, or a new character) is still waiting for your answer, answer it first. If your credits are below the price of one image, a credit notice appears instead of the draw button. If no scenario card has appeared, try describing who’s in the story, where it happens, and what they do in a bit more detail.
Read the full article · Agent chat basicsI sent the wrong message.
Just send a correction, and Zennyang will go with it. If it’s still replying, stop it first with the stop button or Esc. Nothing is charged before anything is drawn.
Read the full article · Agent chat basicsI picked the wrong option on a card.
You can change the art style, panels per image, or cast by asking in the chat, like “Switch to one panel per image” or “Make Harin the main character.” Reworking the scenario doesn’t cost credits. The world can’t be changed in the chat. To use a different world or none, open a new project with New Project, send your story there, and choose again on the world card.
Read the full article · Start with a storyWhy didn’t I get the world card?
The world card only appears when you have at least one world and this project isn’t linked to a world yet. If you have no worlds, drawing creates the My world world automatically and links that project to it. It’s asked only once per conversation: if you sent a message instead of choosing while the card was showing, it won’t ask again.
Read the full article · Start with a storyCan I go ahead without creating the new character?
You can go ahead without creating them. On the new character card, click No for that person. If you skip everyone, a Continue without new characters button appears; if you created others, continue with Continue with these characters on their character card in the chat.
Read the full article · Start with a storyI want to add or remove panels.
Just tell Zennyang in the chat, and it will rework the scenario with more or fewer panels for free. While the card is showing, say something like “Cut it down to 5 panels” or “Add one more panel at the end.”
Read the full article · Read and edit the scenario cardIt says I don’t have enough credits instead of showing the draw button.
When you have fewer credits than one image costs, a top-up notice replaces the draw button. Your scenario stays as it is and you can keep editing it. Top up on the Pricing page, then draw from the same card.
Read the full article · Read and edit the scenario cardI’m not sure whether to pick Standard or Pro.
If you’re just starting, draw a quick draft in Standard mode and redraw only the panels you’re not happy with in Pro mode. Each redrawn panel costs that mode’s per-image price again. For how the two differ, see Choose Standard or Pro.
Read the full article · Read and edit the scenario cardDoes Pro mode always look better?
Not always. Pro tends to be more accurate with complex staging and text, but for simple scenes the difference can be small. Try Standard first and redraw only the panels you’re not happy with in Pro. Each redrawn panel costs that mode’s per-image price again.
Read the full article · Choose Standard or ProCan I redraw just one panel in Pro mode?
You can redraw a single panel in Pro mode. Click the redraw button (the circular-arrows icon) in that panel’s tools to open a window. Hovering over the button shows Character looks off?. In the window, the model the panel was drawn with is already selected, so choose Pro first, then click Regenerate. Or ask for a fix in the chat and switch to Pro mode on the edit confirmation card. Either way, that panel costs the Pro price (25 credits) again.
Read the full article · Choose Standard or ProHow do I change the mode I picked?
You can pick the mode again every time you draw. You can also switch it on the edit confirmation card or in the edit window whenever you like.
Read the full article · Choose Standard or ProWill the art look exactly like the person in the photo?
Not exactly: it uses the photo as reference and redraws someone similar in your chosen art style. If you’ll use the same person across many panels, create a character from the photo.
Read the full article · Upload reference imagesMy photo won’t upload.
Photos won’t upload if they aren’t image files or are too large, so check the file type and size. The paperclip button is locked while Zennyang is replying or drawing, so attach your photo after that finishes. If it still doesn’t work, try attaching it again in a moment. If none of your photos can be uploaded, you’ll see a notice in the chat; if only some fail, the message is sent without them.
Read the full article · Upload reference imagesOnly the bubble text is slightly wrong. Do I need to redraw?
If only the words are wrong, you don’t need to redraw: change them for free with Fix text in the panel tools. It works in the web studio on a computer, for text inside light speech bubbles with closed outlines. Characters the font doesn’t have yet (such as Chinese characters, Arabic or Thai script) can’t be used. See Add and fix speech bubbles and text.

You can go back to the earlier version for free by saying something like “Put panel 2 back the way it was” in the chat. Then try asking again with a shorter, clearer description of the change.
Read the full article · Edit panels by chattingHow is this different from the Edit button in the panel tools?
Both edit the art the same way: the Edit button in the panel tools is handy for one panel, and the chat for several at once. With the button you write the change in a window; in the chat you just ask in plain words.
Read the full article · Edit panels by chattingI just want to chat, but it keeps trying to draw.
Casual conversation without a story doesn’t start any drawing. When you send a story, Zennyang prepares a scenario card, and its panels are drawn only after you click Draw as-is and pick Standard or Pro mode. While a scenario card is open, what you say in the chat is used to revise that scenario, and that’s free. New people in your story, though, can be drawn as characters before the scenario (13 credits each). On the web that happens only after you approve it on the new character card, but the GenToon app sometimes draws them right away without asking.

Before drawing, you can change the scenario as much as you like for free. Edit the scene, setting, and dialogue on the scenario card, or say it again in the chat, like “Move panel 2 from the classroom to the rooftop.”

Characters
My character’s face changes a little from panel to panel.
A clear reference image with an easy-to-see face, plus an appearance description, helps the character look the same in every panel. For panels that still come out different, redraw just that panel or ask for a fix in the chat.

Yes, you can delete it like any other character. It moves to the Trash, and you can restore it during the holding period.
Read the full article · Create a characterCan I use other people’s characters?
You can’t copy characters other users made into your own characters. Characters listed in the character shop can be added to your characters: browse them in the Characters menu at the top of the site. Some characters aren’t available on every plan, and added characters count toward your character limit.

Looks are drawn to keep the face, eyes, and skin tone, but every drawing can turn out a little differently. If you don’t like it, delete that look and make it again with a more specific description of what should change. Making it again costs 13 credits, and the credits for the deleted look aren’t returned.

There are two kinds. A comment with the Cast label comes from a character who appears in that webtoon. One with the AI character label comes from a character of a creator who mutually follows the author and stopped by. Replying to a Cast comment as is calls that character, which costs credits. Learn more in Character comments.

AI writes them based on the character’s personality and the webtoon. They aren’t written by the creator.

If no reply came back, you weren’t charged. Credits are only used when a reply is actually posted.

You can only call characters who appear in that webtoon and whose chat the creator has made public. The character may also be unavailable right now.

Yes — click Reply under it. But when you reply to a comment with the Cast label, the character’s @name is already in the box. Sending it as is calls the character, so it replies again and 1 credit is charged, even on your own post. To reply without using credits, delete the @name before you send. Replies to comments with the AI character label are free.

Invite credits arrive the moment your friend signs up through your invite. Invites that didn’t qualify are listed on the Invite friends screen under Invites that didn't earn credits, marked No credits with a one-line reason, and that result won’t change, even if you wait or contact us. If your friend isn’t on that screen at all, their sign-up wasn’t connected to your invite. In that case, within a day of signing up, your friend can connect it in the GenToon app by going to the Profile tab › Invite friends and entering your code under Got an invite code?, or on the web by opening your invite link while signed in.

The price currency follows your browser’s language setting, not the site language. If your browser is set to Korean, prices show in won; otherwise, they show in US dollars, so changing only the site language doesn’t change the currency. If you’ve paid before, prices appear in the currency of the payment method you used.

Most unfamiliar charges can be identified from that line’s type and time. If you create regularly, a plan gives you a lower price per credit. If you only need credits now and then, packs are more convenient. You don’t get money back for the rest of your old period when you upgrade. On a monthly plan paid in won, a new billing period starts on the day you upgrade, and your remaining plan credits carry over to the new plan.

If you pay monthly in won or pay in dollars, you can upgrade while a cancellation is scheduled, and upgrading removes it so your plan keeps renewing. If you pay in dollars and try to downgrade, you’ll see a message that it can’t go through because of the scheduled cancellation, so click Keep subscription first here too.
