Overview

With the GenToon MCP connector, you can make comics with GenToon right inside AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, and Claude Code. It works the same way as the Studio: plan the story, draw the panels, and publish to the community if you like.

  • No API key needed. When you connect, just sign in with your GenToon account and click “Allow.”
  • Comics you make are saved as projects in your GenToon account, so you can keep editing them in the Studio later.
  • Planning the story (the scenario) is free. Just like in the Studio, credits are used when images are drawn — but if you don’t pick any of your saved characters, the AI creates new ones while planning the story, and each new character costs 13 credits right away.

Connector address

Add the address below in your AI app. You can also copy it from the MCP connection guide page.

The MCP connection guide page — copy the address and pick your AI app.

Connecting to Claude

  1. The MCP connection guide page opens with the ChatGPT tab selected. Switch to the Claude tab and click Add to Claude. When Claude opens, click “Continue” and then “Add.” On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization Owner has to add it first.

  2. Instead of the button in step 1, you can add it yourself — do only one of the two. In Claude, go to Customize › Connectors › “Add” › “Add custom connector,” enter GenToon as the name and the connector address above as the URL, and leave Advanced settings empty. Either way, Claude’s free plan allows only one custom connector, so remove any other custom connector first.

  3. Click “Connect” and a GenToon sign-in window opens. Sign in and allow access.

  4. Turn on GenToon under “+” › Connectors in the chat, then ask something like “Make a 4-panel Instagram comic about lunch break with GenToon.”

Connecting to ChatGPT

  1. On ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com), turn on Developer mode in settings.

  2. At chatgpt.com/plugins, click “Create app.” Name it GenToon, enter the connector address above as the MCP server URL, and choose OAuth for authentication. Then finish in this order: “Scan Tools” → sign in to GenToon → “Create.” The Open chatgpt.com/plugins link on the ChatGPT tab of the MCP connection guide page opens it directly.

  3. In a new chat, choose GenToon under “+” › Developer mode and make your request.

Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, and others

On the MCP connection guide page, choose your app’s tab to find one-click buttons such as Add to Cursor and Add to VS Code. The Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI tabs appear when you click “CLI” at the top right of the connection card; after running the register command, also do the sign-in step shown on the tab. For apps not on the list, add the address from the Other tab to that app’s MCP settings and choose OAuth for authentication. In any app, when a browser window opens, sign in with GenToon and allow access.

Managing and removing connections

  1. Go to Account › My Account and find Connected apps. Each connected app gets one row, with the date it was last used. Each time you connect from another device or reconnect, that app gets one more connection.

  2. In the row of the app you want to remove, click Disconnect, then click Disconnect again in the confirmation window. If that app has several connections, the button reads Disconnect all and removes all of that app’s connections at once. To remove just one, click Show each connection, then Disconnect next to that connection. Other apps stay connected, so remove each app separately.

Good to know

FAQ

I connected it, but GenToon doesn’t respond.
If GenToon doesn’t respond, the connector is usually turned off in that chat. Turn on the GenToon connector in the chat. In ChatGPT, try calling it again with @GenToon.
Where are the comics I made in the AI app?
Comics made in AI apps are saved as projects in Projects in your GenToon account. Open them in the Studio to keep editing.
Could someone else use my account through this?
The connector only works in apps where you signed in and allowed access. You can remove a connection at any time in Connected apps.
