Overview

Click Publish in the Studio to open the Publish to Community window. Go through three steps — Type, Cover, and Finish — then click Publish and your comic goes live in the community.

Published posts are visible to everyone. There’s no separate visibility setting. If you’d rather keep a comic to yourself, download it instead of publishing.

Publish to the Community

Follow along as you choose the type, cover, and title for a comic you made in the Studio and post it to the GenToon Community.

Where to find it

The Publish button is in the toolbar at the top of the Studio, right next to Download. If you have a publishing reward waiting, it’s shown next to the button.

Step by step

  1. Open the project you want to publish in the Studio and click Publish.

  2. Type — choose Standalone or Series. For a series, pick the series to continue or create a New series, then set the Episode #.

  3. Cover — choose the cover people see in the community feed. Pick one of your panels under From panels, draw a new one with AI create (13 credits), or add your own image with Upload.

  4. Finish — write a Title and a Description. Any #hashtags in the description are taken out of the text and added as tags. If your comic is fan work based on another creator’s characters or work, check This is a fan work (derivative). Allow stitching is on from the start, so unless you switch it off, other people can continue your post by drawing onto it. Under Featured characters, characters that seem to appear in this comic are already checked — keep only the ones who actually appear.

  5. Click Publish and you’re done. Use View Post on the success screen to see your post right away.

Publishing rewards

Each account can earn a publishing reward twice: 50 credits the first time a qualifying post earns one, and 20 credits the second time. After that, there are no more publishing rewards. Publishing a post that doesn’t qualify doesn’t use up a reward. The credits you earn appear on the success screen, and like purchased credits, they don’t reset each month.

  • The post needs at least 4 images, from at least 4 drawings made on GenToon in that project. Each picture on the canvas counts as one image — a page with four panels drawn on it counts as one. Panels added by importing don’t count toward the number of drawings.
  • Each post can earn a reward only once. Unpublishing and publishing it again doesn’t earn another one.
  • The amount this post can earn is shown next to the Publish button. If nothing is shown, you’ve already received both rewards, this post has already earned its reward, or this post doesn’t qualify.

Editing or removing a post

  • On the post page, use Edit to change the title and description, and Change cover to change the cover.
  • Changes you make to panels in the Studio don’t show up in the post automatically. In the Studio, click Publish again, then click Update at the last step — this updates the same post instead of creating a new one. If you published from this screen just now, the button reads Publish, but it still updates the same post. When you publish again, the Description box is empty. If you leave it empty, your description stays but your tags are removed, so type your #hashtags again to keep them. Allow stitching is switched on again, and any of your characters checked under Featured characters become public again, so check both before you click.
  • Clicking Delete on the post takes it down from the community. Your project stays in the Studio.

Good to know

FAQ

It says I need to draw more panels before I can publish.
You need at least 4 drawn panels to publish. Draw a few more, then click Publish again.
I didn’t get a publishing reward.
Each account can earn a publishing reward twice, for posts that meet the conditions. The post needs at least 4 images drawn on GenToon, from at least 4 drawings made in that project. If you’ve already received both rewards, or this post has already earned one, there’s no further reward. If your post qualifies and you still didn’t get it, contact us with the post’s link.
Can I publish privately?
There’s no way to publish privately — published posts are visible to everyone. To stop showing a post, click Delete on it to take it down (your project stays in the Studio). To keep a comic to yourself from the start, download it instead of publishing.
If I delete a post, is my comic deleted too?
Deleting a post doesn’t delete your comic. Only the post is taken down from the community, and the project stays in your Studio.
How do I post episodes one after another, like a serial?
Publish as Series and your posts are grouped in the same series. To create episodes, see Series and episodes.
