Overview

A series ties several episodes together into one ongoing story. Each episode is its own project, and when you create the next episode in a series, Zennyang continues from the story so far and its characters. Add the series to a world and the world’s setting and memories carry over too.

Where to find it

Click the Series tab on the left side of the Studio, and the series screen (the Serial Room) opens where the canvas usually is. Your series and One-shots that aren’t in a series yet are all here. Click a series cover to open the screen with that series’ episodes.

Create a series

  1. In the Series tab, click Create your first series (shown when you have no series yet) or the New series tile.

  2. Fill in the Title and Genre. Both are required.

  3. If you have at least one world, you’ll see World (optional). Choose a world for this series, or choose No world.

  4. A cover is optional. While creating, you can upload an image in the Upload tab or pick a Title cover. The Make with AI and From an episode tabs are available in Edit after the series is created. An AI cover costs credits, so you’ll see the cost and be asked to confirm before it’s made.

  5. Click Create, and the new series’ screen opens.

Create the next episode

  1. On the series screen, click the button to create the next episode (for example, “Create Ep. 2”). If the last episode is still empty, you’ll see a button to draw that episode (for example, “Draw Ep. 2”) instead.

  2. Wait a moment while Carrying over the cast and story from the last episode is shown.

  3. The new episode opens in the Studio (if your current work has unsaved changes, you’ll be asked whether to save first). Send this episode’s story in the agent chat, and the scenario picks up where the last episode left off.

What carries over to the next episode

  • The series’ world — If the series is in a world, the new episode is linked to the same world, so you won’t be asked to choose a world again.
  • The cast — Zennyang refers to the characters in the story so far. In a series that’s in a world, the card for choosing characters shows only the characters in that world.
  • The story so far — It refers to summaries of recent episodes. In a series that’s in a world, past episodes are also organized into memories in the Chronicle and into Open threads on the series screen.

Add a series to a world

  1. On the series screen, find the This story's world box near the bottom and click Add to my world. It shows when the series isn’t in a world yet and you have at least one world.

  2. Choose the world. Past episodes will also be organized into that world’s Chronicle.

  3. Once you confirm, the series’ episodes are linked to that world. You can undo right after; to take it out later, open Edit and set the world to No world.

Move between episodes

  • Click an episode in the series’ episode list to open it in the Studio. The episode you’re working on is marked Now editing. Click an empty episode to choose between drawing it and putting a one-shot you already made in its place.
  • To go back to the canvas, click the Create tab on the left. If the episode you’re working on is in that series, a button like “Back to Ep. 1” also takes you back.
  • While you’re working on an episode in a series, the Studio’s top bar shows the series name and episode number.
  • If you’ve published an episode, use View as reader in the ⋮ menu at the top of the series screen to open the reader’s page in a new tab.

Delete a series

To delete a series, use Delete in the ⋮ menu on its cover or at the top of the series screen. Deleting a series doesn’t delete its episodes. They stay as one-shots. For a few seconds right after deleting, you can click Undo, but after that the series can’t be restored.

FAQ

How is a series different from a world?
A world is the stage for your story (setting, characters, relationships), and a series is a set of episodes that play out on that stage. You can run several series in one world. See Create a world.
A character looks different in the next episode.
People who aren’t saved as characters can look different from episode to episode. Save anyone who appears often as a character, and they’re easier to draw the same way in every episode. In a series that’s in a world, also add those characters to the world — the card for choosing characters shows only the world’s characters. See Create a character.
Can I change the order of episodes?
Click the ⋮ button (Change episode number) in the bottom corner of the episode’s thumbnail and pick a new number. If that number is free, the episode moves there; if another episode has it, the two swap places. You can undo right after.
