Overview

A world holds your cast, settings, and relationships in one place. Write down the era, the places, the rules of the world, and its mood, then add the characters who live there and photos of places that come up often. When a project is linked to a world, Zennyang plans the story using that setting, the relationships between characters, and memories from earlier episodes.

Where to find it

It’s the Worlds section at the top of the Create tab on the left side of the Studio. Each account can have up to 3 worlds.

Create a world

  1. In the Worlds section, click New world or the + in an empty slot. The World studio window opens.

  2. Under Basics, fill in the World name and the Premise. A name is all you need to create it.

  3. Under World setting, fill in Genre and mood and Era, places, and rules. Apart from the name, you can leave fields empty and fill them in later.

  4. Under Cast, pick the characters who appear in this world. This is optional.

  5. Click Create to save.

Add characters

  1. Select a world and click Add cast.

  2. Pick the characters who appear in this world, then click Save. One character can belong to several worlds.

  • Adding a character doesn’t copy it. The same character can be in several worlds, and any change you make to the character shows up in all of them.
  • If you create a new character while a world is selected, it’s added to that world right away.
  • To take a character out, click the Remove from this world button on that character’s row. The character itself isn’t deleted, but relationships involving them are.

Add settings (places)

Save photos or drawings of places that come up often as settings, and you can pick them as a panel’s background right on the scenario card.

  1. In the world’s Settings section, click Add setting and upload a photo.

  2. Use Write a description to add a name and description so Zennyang knows what the place is.

  3. To swap just the photo, click Change the photo. It doesn’t use up another slot.

Use a world in your comic

  • If you have a world and the project isn’t linked to one yet, Zennyang asks with the Which world should this story be set in? card when you send a story. Choosing one links this project to that world.
  • In a linked project, Zennyang plans the scenario using the world’s setting, characters, relationships, memories from earlier episodes, and its list of settings.
  • For a quick standalone story, click Continue without a world.

The My world made with your first comic

If you have no worlds when you draw something, a My world world is created automatically and the project is linked to it. Characters used in that comic are added too, but some can be missed, so add anyone missing with Add cast. Its settings start empty, so rename it and fill it in however you like. Even after you delete all your worlds, drawing something new creates one again.

Edit or delete a world

  • Click Edit next to the world’s name to open Edit world right there. Click Save when you’re done.
  • Deleting a world with the trash button next to Edit moves it to the Trash and unlinks any series and episodes tied to it. Your characters stay as they are. Its relationship map, Chronicle, and settings stay with the world in the Trash and are deleted along with it when the world is permanently deleted.
  • Right after deleting, you can bring it back instantly with Undo, and after that you can still restore it from the Trash within 30 days. Restoring re-links the series and episodes that were unlinked; after that period, the world is permanently deleted.

FAQ

It says I can’t create any more worlds.
Each account can have up to 3 worlds. Delete one you no longer use to make room. Worlds in the Trash don’t count, but they count again once you restore them.
Can I write a long setting?
That’s fine within the length limit, but Zennyang follows short, clear settings best. Put the key rules and mood up front.
Can I put a one-shot I already made into a world?
For a one-shot, choose a world on the world card that appears when you send a story in that project. The card only appears if the project isn’t linked to a world yet and it hasn’t already asked in that conversation. Moving the one-shot into a series that’s in a world also links it to that world. For a series, you can add the whole series with Add to my world in the This story's world box on the series screen. See Series and episodes.
