Connect your social accounts

Connect your Instagram and Threads accounts, switch to another account, or disconnect.

Overview

You connect an account for each platform from the tiles in the Connect accounts step. You give GenToon permission to post on each platform’s own sign-in screen, so GenToon never gets your password.

Step by step

  1. In the Studio on the GenToon website, open the SNS Auto tab on the left and pick the Connect accounts step. The app doesn’t have this feature.

  2. Click Connect on the tile for the platform you want, and a consent window opens. For Instagram, it also shows which kinds of accounts can be connected. Read it, tick the consent box, and click Agree and connect. If you’ve agreed before, just click Continue.

  3. Sign in on the platform’s screen and allow the permissions.

  4. Back in the Studio, the tile shows your account name and Connected.

Instagram account requirements

Instagram only connects Business or Creator accounts. You can switch a personal account for free in the Instagram app, and your posts and followers stay. If you’d rather keep a personal account, you can connect Threads instead, since Threads works with personal accounts too.

TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms

The TikTok and YouTube tiles show Coming soon and can’t be connected yet. The LinkedIn, Facebook, and X tiles below show Getting ready and can’t be selected yet either.

Switch accounts or disconnect

  • Move to another account — First click Disconnect on the current account’s tile, then click Connect on the same tile and sign in with the new account. If you use Switch account and sign in with another account without disconnecting, the original account stays connected too. The tile shows only the new account, but posts scheduled for the original account still go out, and with automatic posting on, new posts go to both accounts. If this already happened, contact us.
  • Disconnect — Clicking Disconnect opens a confirmation window. Once you disconnect, posts for this account that haven’t gone up yet, whether scheduled or still being sent, won’t go out, and the permissions GenToon was given are deleted. However, a post that was going up on the platform at that very moment can’t be stopped and may still go up.
  • If the connection ends — GenToon keeps your connection going automatically, but if the permission ends, the tile shows a warning and a Reconnect button, and you get a notification. Reconnect and you can keep posting right away. Posts that come due while the connection is down won’t go out.

FAQ

My Instagram account won’t connect.
Instagram only connects Business or Creator accounts, not personal ones. You can switch a personal account for free in the Instagram app, and your posts and followers stay. If you’d rather not switch, connect Threads, since it works with personal accounts. If the Instagram tile shows a lock, you’ve used all the accounts your plan can connect, so disconnect another account to make room.
Does disconnecting delete posts that already went up?
Posts that already went up aren’t deleted. Disconnecting only stops the posts for that account that haven’t gone up yet.
Can I post to several accounts at once?
You can pick several accounts in the composer. There’s a limit on how many you can pick at once.
