Overview

Your first comic takes three steps. Follow along and you’ll go from a one-line idea to finished panels on your canvas in one sitting. The screens and steps here are for a computer browser. In a phone browser, the message box is at the very bottom of the screen, and in the app you open the Studio with the + button in the middle of the tab bar. For the app, see Using GenToon on the web and in the app.

  1. Open the Studio
  2. Send your story
  3. Review the scenario and draw

Before you start

  • Sign in to GenToon. If you’re new, your account is created the first time you sign in. See Signing in for the options.
  • Drawing uses credits. The Free plan comes with 150 credits every month, so you can start right away.

Step 1: Open the Studio

  1. Click Studio in the menu at the top of the page.

  2. A new project opens. The first time you visit the Studio, a short tip points to the message box. Click the button on the tip to close it.

  3. Make sure the Agent Mode tab is open on the right. This is where you chat with Zennyang to make your comic.

Step 2: Send your story

  1. Type the story you want to tell in the message box at the bottom right. For example: “Two friends end up sharing one umbrella on a rainy day, 4 panels.”

  2. Press Enter or click the send button (the paper plane). To start a new line instead, press Shift + Enter.

  3. If Zennyang asks you something with a card, pick an answer. It may ask about the cast, how many panels to put on each page, and the art style, one at a time. You can also skip the card and type what you want in the chat.

Step 3: Review the scenario and draw

  1. When the “Scenario ready” card appears, check the scene, background, and dialogue for each panel. You can fix anything right on the card. If a panel is folded into a short summary, click its Edit button to open it first.

  2. When you’re happy with it, click Draw as-is. The button shows roughly how many credits it will take.

  3. Choose Standard mode or Pro mode. Each option shows its total in credits, and drawing starts as soon as you pick one.

  4. Finished panels appear one after another on the canvas in the middle.

FAQ

What happens if I don’t have enough credits?
Your scenario and any panels already drawn are kept, so you can top up and keep going. If you don’t have enough for even one image, the draw button is replaced by a Not enough credits to draw this notice with a top-up button; top up on the Pricing page and draw from the same card. If you run out partway through drawing, it stops there, and you can draw the remaining panels after topping up.
What happens to my credits if drawing fails?
Credits for panels that couldn’t be drawn are returned to you. If a panel can’t be drawn because of the content policy, you’re not charged for it either.
Can I change the number of panels?
You can change it for free by asking in the chat. While the scenario card is showing, say something like “Make it 6 panels” and Zennyang will rework the scenario.
