What is GenToon?

Overview

GenToon is an AI comic studio for people who want to make webtoons and Instagram-style comics without drawing them by hand. Describe your story in the Studio, and Zennyang, the AI agent, plans it out panel by panel. Once you’ve checked the plan and pressed draw, it turns it into finished art.

The GenToon Studio: characters and worlds on the left, the canvas in the middle, and the agent chat on the right.

What you can do with GenToon

  • Make a comic from a story — Send a one-line idea or paste a scene you’ve already written, and you’ll get a panel-by-panel scenario. Review the scenes and dialogue, tweak them, then draw.
  • Keep your characters consistent — Save a character once and GenToon works to draw them the same way across panels. You can also save extra “looks” with a different outfit, hairstyle, or age.
  • Build worlds and run a series — Keep your setting and character relationships in a world, then continue the story episode by episode in a series.
  • Polish it yourself — Ask the agent to fix just one panel, or, in the web Studio on a computer, change the text inside a speech bubble right where it sits.
  • Save and share — Download your comic as images or publish it to the GenToon Community.

How a comic comes together

  1. Type the story you want to tell in the chat on the right side of the Studio.
  2. If it needs more detail, Zennyang asks with quick cards: which world, which characters, how many panels per page, and which art style. If your story has someone who isn’t in your characters yet, a step to create that character comes first.
  3. Check the scenes, backgrounds, and dialogue on the scenario card and edit them right there.
  4. Press Draw as-is and pick Standard mode or Pro mode. Each option shows how many credits the drawing will use before it starts.
  5. When the finished panels land on the canvas, fine-tune them, then download or publish.

Getting started for free

Every new account starts on the Free plan, which comes with 150 credits every month. Chatting with Zennyang in the Studio to plan your scenario is free. Credits are mostly used when something gets drawn: each image costs 13 credits in Standard mode or 25 credits in Pro mode. Some other features, such as drawing a new character or chatting one-on-one with a character, also use credits. See How credits work for details.

Want to make more? You can switch plans or buy extra credits on the Pricing page. To compare plans, see Plans at a glance.

Where you can use it

Use GenToon in a web browser on your computer or in the iOS and Android apps, all with the same account. The interface is available in 21 languages. For what’s different between the web and the app, see Using GenToon on the web and in the app.

FAQ

Can I use GenToon if I can’t draw?
The AI does the drawing, so you can make comics without drawing skills. Your job is to decide the story and scenes and pick the results you like. There are hands-on tools too, like fixing bubble text yourself, but you never have to use them.
What do I need to get started?
A line or two of story is plenty. If you already know what your characters look like, that helps when you create them. To try it right away, follow the Quickstart.
Where can I use the comics I make?
Under our Terms of Service, you own the rights to what you create and can use it for personal and commercial purposes within the scope of your plan. Whether AI-generated art is protected by copyright depends on the applicable law. For details, see the Terms of Service, and for what you can’t make, see Usage policy and safety.
