Overview

Zennyang works with what you give it. You don’t need to write a lot, but including these four things gets the scenario much closer to what you have in mind.

  • Who — The characters' names (if a name matches one of your characters, that character is used)
  • Where — The place, time of day, and weather
  • What happens — How it starts, what happens in the middle, and how it ends
  • How many panels, and the mood — “4 panels,” “calm and quiet,” “goofy”

Asking for a story: examples

Vague requestTry this instead
Draw a fun comicHarin, a convenience store clerk, serves cup noodles to a cat customer who wanders in late at night. 4 panels, warm and funny.
School romanceWalking home from school in the rain, Harin shares half her umbrella with Minjun, who forgot his. In the last panel they’re both smiling with one wet shoulder each. 6 panels.
An office storyJiho, a new hire running late for the Monday meeting, ends up alone in the elevator with the team lead. 3 panels, awkward.

Setting the number of panels

  • Write a number, like “4 panels” or “8 panels,” and the scenario is planned to match.
  • To fit several panels on one image, write something like “4 panels on one image,” or choose on the panels-per-image card.
  • If you don’t give a number, Zennyang picks one that suits the story. You can add or remove panels in the chat after you see the scenario card.

Describing characters

When creating a new character, include their gender, age, appearance and distinctive features, and clothing. On the web, click Describe it myself on the new character card and write it in the Character description box, or click Let Zennyang write it to get a free draft based on your story and edit it. In the GenToon app, Zennyang doesn’t ask about looks and decides them from your story, so if you have a look in mind, include it with your story.

  • Good: “Male college student in his 20s, short black hair, round glasses, blue hoodie”
  • Good: “Female detective in her 30s, bob haircut, sharp eyes, beige trench coat”
  • Not so good: “A cool guy” — there’s no way to tell what makes him cool.

Adding dialogue

  • Put dialogue in quotes and say who’s speaking. For example: Harin: “Want to share my umbrella?”
  • A few short lines per panel draw best. Move long explanations into narration or split them across panels.
  • For panels where the dialogue really matters, Pro mode draws lettering more accurately. It costs more, though: 25 credits per image instead of 13 in Standard mode.

Asking for edits

Something’s off, redraw itHarin’s hand looks awkward in panel 3. Put her hand in her pocket instead.
Change the moodKeep the composition in panel 5, just make it a rainy night.
Fix the dialogueChange the line in panel 2 to “Lunch is on me today!”

Things to avoid

  • Too many characters in one panel — There’s a limit to how many fit in one panel, so extra characters get spread across panels.
  • Long descriptions that are hard to show in a picture — Describe expressions and actions rather than inner thoughts.
  • Anything against the content policy — It can’t be drawn, and you won’t be charged. See Usage policy and safety.

FAQ

I just want to chat, but it keeps trying to draw.
Casual conversation without a story doesn’t start any drawing. When you send a story, Zennyang prepares a scenario card, and its panels are drawn only after you click Draw as-is and pick Standard or Pro mode. While a scenario card is open, what you say in the chat is used to revise that scenario, and that’s free. New people in your story, though, can be drawn as characters before the scenario (13 credits each). On the web that happens only after you approve it on the new character card, but the GenToon app sometimes draws them right away without asking.
The scenario isn’t what I pictured.
Before drawing, you can change the scenario as much as you like for free. Edit the scene, setting, and dialogue on the scenario card, or say it again in the chat, like “Move panel 2 from the classroom to the rooftop.”
